Update: Democratic Sen. Wendy Davis said she raised $2.85 million in the last reporting period, including the two accounts that bear her name and the Texas Victory Committee, a joint effort with Battleground Texas, which is working to make the state competitive for Democrats. She says she has $11.3 million cash on hand.

AUSTIN – Attorney General Greg Abbott said he has raised nearly another $2.5 million for his Republican campaign for governor, giving him just shy of $30 million in cash on hand.

Democratic Sen. Wendy Davis, his expected general election opponent, hasn’t yet released her total for the last reporting period, which covers Jan. 24-Feb. 22.

The two won’t get their party nominations until next Tuesday’s primary, but they’ve already been duking it out.

Most recently, the Fort Worth Democrat has targeted Abbott for appearing with rocker Ted Nugent at two campaign stops. The appearances drew national attention in large part because Nugent had recently described President Barack Obama as a “subhuman mongrel.”

Abbott has slammed Davis as being in league with Obama, saying last week after a Nugent appearance, “I don’t think there’s anybody in the state who’s disliked more than Barack Obama.”

Abbott has, however, suggested Nugent’s “subhuman mongrel” language was wrong to use.
